Sushmita Sen: How She Became the 'Best Man' in Her First Love's Life ?

Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen recently opened up about her friendship with her ex-boyfriend, Rajat Tara, whom she dated during her initial modeling days. In an interview with Mid-Day, Sen addressed some rumors targeted at her since she first joined the industry.

The Aarya actress was open about her relationship with Tara, who was the son of a high-profile public relations officer in a government embassy in Delhi. Sen and Tara had broken up after she won the Miss Universe title in 1994, and gossipmongers had a field day, claiming she dumped him because of her big win.

In the Mid-Day interview, Sen clarified that the breakup was mutual and had just outgrown the relationship. "A man like that, you can’t dump," she said about him.

Remaining Good Friends Post-Breakup

"You just outgrow [people] sometimes. I had outgrown him, and he realized that," Sushmita Sen said, about the reason for their breakup. "We remain friends, and there are no regrets there," she exclaimed, adding that they are just a phone call away from lending support to each other. "I have been very blessed," she added.

Sen revealed that she was even the 'best man' at the Tara wedding in Belgrade.

 "I am so glad he was my first boyfriend because of the generosity of this man, to this day. He is a father of a very beautiful little girl, I was his best man at his wedding. He is married to a Serbian lady and she is divine because she wanted me there,” Sen said.

Sen added also revealed that Tara introduced her to Times of India’s Ranjan Bakshi, who scouted her for Miss India when she was about 18 years old. “He said, ‘Tu Miss India ke liye jaegi. (You will become Miss India)... So, he has been my rock-solid supporter, and I love this man,” she narrated.  

Sushmita Sen has not been the kind of celebrity to keep her relationship hush-hush from the public eye. Recently, there have been speculations about her dating business tycoon Lalit Modi, as they were seen vacationing together in July 2022. Before this, she was dating model Rohman Shawl for a while and announced their breakup last year, but Shawl has reappeared in her Instagram posts recently, celebrating Diwali with her family.
