On February 13, singer Vijaya Lakshmi alias Mallika Rajput was found dead in her house in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh under suspicious circumstances. Her body was found hanging by the fan in her room of the house in the Sitakund locality of the Kotwali police station area. Read on to learn more about the incident.
As per the reports, Kotwali police station in-charge Shriram Pandey has said that the prima facie cause of death is suicide. More information is expected after the postmortem report.
Circumstances of her death
The mother of the singer Sumitra Singh said that she doesn't know when the incident took place as at the time of the singer's demise, the family was sleeping. She told a media handle, "Earlier the door was closed. And the light was on. We took three rounds but could not open the door. At last, I looked through the window and saw that she was standing there. When I knocked on the door, I saw that our daughter was hanging. I called my husband and others but she was no more."
Who was Mallika Rajput?
Mallika Rajput was a popular singer and Bollywood actor. She played a supporting role in Kangana Ranaut's crime comedy Revolver Rani in the year 2014. Rajput also appeared in a music video for the song Yaara Tujhe by Bollywood singer Shaan.
In 2016, she kickstarted her political career by joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, it was a short stint as she quit politics two years later. When her political and entertainment career didn't last long, she resorted to spirituality. In the year 2022, she was appointed as the National Secretary General of the Bharatiya Savarna Sangh in Uttar Pradesh.
Rajput was a trainer Kathak dancer and had also started writing and performing her Gazals at poetry sessions.
