After nearly 5 years, ‘Made In Heaven’ is back with Season 2! Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the trailer for the second season dropped on YouTube a day ago, and now has over 10 million views.
The hit OTT series, starring Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur in lead roles, is known for its unique way of addressing issues against the backdrop of Indian weddings. The series delves into a myriad of profound issues, including insecurities, trauma, troubled relationships, extramarital affairs, deceit, same-sex relationships, dowry, patriarchy, sexism, and misogyny.
As we gear up for season 2 and its fabulous guest stars, let’s take a look back to season 1, and see where our main characters left off, and what to expect from the key relationships on the show.
Jaspreet Kaur and Kabir Basrai
Also known as Jazz, Jaspreet, played by Shivani Raghuvanshi, is an employee at Made in Heaven, the wedding planning business founded by Tara and Karan. Jazz comes from an economically weaker section of society than most of the other main characters, and this plays into her storyline for season 1. At the end of season 1, we see that Jazz has feelings for Kabir (Shashank Arora), a fellow employee and the main photographer at ‘Made In Heaven’. The season 2 trailer shows us while the two are now in a relationship, there are still some sour battles between them. In the trailer, Kabir reveals that he doesn’t want a committed relationship, which makes her wonder - will this even last?
Faiza Naqvi and Adil Khanna
Played by Kalki Koechlin and Jim Sarbh respectively, Faiza is Tara’s best friend. The pair have been friends for a long time, with Faiza supporting Tara in her marriage to Adil. However, in season 1, Faiza and Adil are having an affair with one another- one that leads to a car crash and is revealed to Tara in the aftermath. In season 2, Faiza and Adil are together- but also going through problems of their own as Adil begins divorce proceedings with Tara.
Tara Khanna and Karan Mehra
We saved the best for last, with Tara and Karan! Played by Sobhita Dhulipala, Tara Khanna is the co-founder of the titular wedding planning business, ‘Made In Heaven’. Her strong friendship with co-founder, fellow wedding planner, and partner-in-crime Karan Mehra (Arjun Mathur), is at the heart of the show. In season 1, we see her marriage to business heir Adil Khanna (Jim Sarbh) deteriorate, due to her work and his affair with Faiza (Kalki Koechlin), her best friend.
Tara and Karan’s friendship, throughout season 1, goes through its ups and downs, as they navigate wedding after wedding. In the final episode of season 1, the Made in Heaven offices have been vandalised, with many anti-LGBTQIA+ slogans being painted across the walls to hurt Karan, a gay man. Tara supports him against the vitriol, and the season ends with the two of them hugging in their destroyed offices, surrounded by the jewellery Tara was given at her wedding to Adil.
In the season 2 trailer, we see that Tara is preparing to divorce Adil, whereas Karan is being pressured to get married himself by his hospitalised mother. Tara, it seems, is getting ready to fight for what is hers. One question pops up though- where did all the jewellery go?
'Made In Heaven' brings out the fact that all matches aren't made in heaven- and that reality can be quite, quite different.
Fans eagerly await the release of Season 2, which premiers on 10 August 2023, on Amazon Prime Video.
