Why Did Kangana Ranaut's Emergency Get Postponed Again?

Manikarnika Films posted on Instagram, expressing their gratitude for the support and love Kangana has received. The statement read, "Our hearts are filled with love filled with love pouring in for our queen Kangana Ranaut. As she prioritises her duty to the nation and her commitment to serve the country, the release date of our much-awaited film 'Emergency' has been postponed. We promise to update you soon with a new release date. Thank you for your continued support."

Initially, the film was slated to hit theatres on June 14. Kangana had announced this date in January, shortly after attending the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya. However, the film's release had previously been scheduled for November 24, 2023, before being pushed to the June date due to changes in Kangana’s schedule.

Directed and produced by Kangana herself, Emergency sheds light on a crucial chapter in India's history, and the actress expressed her gratitude to the talented cast involved in the project. The film also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Vishak Nair, and Shreyas Talpade in significant roles.

The movie is based on The Emergency in India, a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency across the nation.

Talking about the film, Kangana, who will portray Indira Gandhi in the film, shares, "Emergency is one of the most significant and darkest chapters in our history that young India needs to know. It is a crucial story and I want to thank my super-talented actors like Late Satish ji, Anupam ji, Shreyas, Mahima, and Milind for embarking on this creative journey together. I am excited to bring this extraordinary episode from India’s history to the big screen. Jaihind!"

Last year, the actor also posted her first look from the movie. BAFTA and Oscar-winning special effects make-up artist David Malinowski is behind Kangana’s accurate Indira Gandhi look. Malinowski has worked in films such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Now You See Me 2, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Darkest Hour.

Kangana took to Twitter to post the teaser of the film, and wrote " A protector or dictator? Witness the darkest phase of our history when the leader of our nation declared war on its people."
