Jennifer Lopez Dead
Is Jennifer Lopez dead or alive? A viral hashtag of 'RIP JLo' on social media prompted worried fans across the globe to ask this ominous question over the weekend. Contrary to rumours, however, the 52-year-old singer is well and kicking. Reports on the episode are unclear over how the death hoax began circulating but believe it can be pegged back to a 2014 incident.

As per reports from the time, Lopez was involved in a vehicle collision that year in Malibu, California, while she was travelling with a friend in an SUV. No one was injured and a driver was arrested for drunk driving. Lopez had spoken of the crash on social media and how she was "riding high right before some drunk fool rear ended us in my new whip."

Thanks to the internet and waves of fake news inflow getting hard to curb, fans are routinely startled by hashtags and headlines declaring their favourite stars dead. This year, in India and elsewhere, several celebrities had the misfortune of reading about their deaths before their time.

Jennifer Lopez Dead And Other Similar Rumours That Shocked Fans In 2021:

1. Jennifer Lopez

When rumours of Lopez, who is held up as an ageless diva with unmatched fitness even in her 50s, passing away began doing rounds, fans couldn't help but wonder what happened to her. As per reports, a Facebook post that started the hoax claimed she died in a car crash - a false fact perhaps drawing from her 2014 accident. She is alive and thriving in rekindled romance with ex-flame Ben Affleck.

2. Kirron Kher

Veteran actor Kirron Kher's health has been a subject of concern among fans ever since it was announced this year in April that she is battling multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. Following the news, rumours floated that Kher passed away, which were later busted by her husband Anupam Kher. "It is all false. She is doing absolutely fine. I will request people not to spread such negative news," he tweeted in May. Latest reports suggest she is recovering well.

3. Lucky Ali

Disbelief and mourning gripped social media this May when a hoax about 90s top indie pop voice Lucky Ali's death spread like wildfire. Condolences said the singer had been diagnosed with COVID-19. In a prompt clarification on Instagram, where the 63-year-old is active, he said he was "alive and well and resting in peace at home." During the pandemic, Ali uncorked a flood of nostalgia after he gave several reprised performances of his well-loved tunes. Watch here.

4. Tanya Roberts

In January this year, in what reports described as a "stunning hospital mixup," rumours of Hollywood star and Bond girl Tanya Roberts dying were first published worldwide and then withdrawn. She was in her final moments at a Los Angeles hospital on January 3 when claims of her death circulated after her partner's remarks were incorrectly interpreted. "She’s still with us, but not for long," he later clarified. She died a day later on January 4.

5. Sapna Choudhary

Much to the shock of fans, a hoax of Haryanvi singer and performer Sapna Choudhary dying in a car crash began circulating online last month. A post on Facebook appeared to have sparked the rumours. Subsequent reports cleared that the accident in Sirsa being cited actually involved another woman from the entertainment industry, who was locally known as 'junior Sapna Choudhary.' Choudhary in later interviews said the incident was upsetting for her family.
