• Feminist Icon Frida Kahlo Emojis Are Here

For all those of you who love to use emojis in chats, here’s some great news! FridaMoji is here and we can’t wait to plug these in every chat we have. Most of us are tired of using the same old smiles and even images of Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are out of fashion now. But worry not, because there’s some much more sensible emojis on the scene.

Los Angeles-based graphic designer Sam Cantor, who is known for his previous creations of iconic artists such as van Gogh and Basquiat’s depiction emojis, is now back with more than 160 emojis — all featuring the legendary Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.

The FridaMoji series are hitting the App store from this month and each emoji has been created in resemblance with the artist’s famous self-aquatints. The caption says: “35 Emoji, including a mix of animated gifs and static emoji capturing a wide range of Frida’s passion and iconic work.”

Frida in those emojis would be portrayed in various costumes and sometimes in a powerful manner.

Quoting artist and gallerist Sam Cantor from Artsy, he explained that Frida was ‘just perfect for the project’.

He added, “She conveyed her emotions so honestly and openly in her work. What better artist to translate into emoji, which we use to express emotion today?”

Sam’s latest work came from an idea to engage artisans with social media followers of his family gallery, Cantor Fine Art.

Most works of Kahlo were symbolization of gender-based issues other than focusing on class, love, loss and magic. Kahlo first got inspired to become an artist after a traumatic accident at the age of 18 which caused serious health problems and she had no choice left but to deal with a scared life. During her recovery, Kahlo made a choice of being the owner of her own fate and started expressing herself in paintings. She went on to become the first Mexican artist to be featured in the Louvre. Her works and a lifelong battle against the odds are an inspiring tale. Now wonder artists and feminists across the world adore her so much!
