• Emma Watson Receives First Gender Neutral Acting Award

Emma Watson received the first gender neutral award in the awards show history. She won the MTV Movie and TV awards – Best Actor in a Movie – for playing Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Asia Kate Dillon, who plays Taylor on Billions, TV’s first non-binary character presented her with the award.

“Tonight we celebrate portrayals of the human existence because the only distinction we should be making when it comes to awards should be between each outstanding performance, she said while presenting Watson with the award.

Watson spoke about the significance of the award during her acceptance speech.

She said that the award says something about how we perceive the human experience, and it will mean something different for everyone.

“But to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories. Empathy and the ability to use your imagination should have no limits, she said.

She is the UN Goodwill Ambassador and the face of the HeForShe campaign. The campaign encourages boys to become active agents of change and fight for gender equality. She speaks about how men are also imprisoned by gender stereotypes and how when they are free, things will also change for women.
