• E-Route For Central Women Staff’s Abuse Plaints

    After receiving a bunch of complaints from aggrieved women employees from various ministries, Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Maneka Gandhi has finally approved the launch an online platform through which any woman employed with the Central government can file sexual harassment complaints.

    The hassle free e-platform, which does not require physical presence, will be directly hosted on the Women and Child Development ministry’s website, ahiccording to a senior official. The complaints will reviewed by an inter-ministerial committee that will be headed by a senior WCD official. Heads of the all Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), which is yet to be constituted, will be imparted training to ensure impactful action is taken for all such complaints.

    The minister decided that the DoPT will act upon instructions to make sure that training programmes for all services include a module on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, to sensitise the government staff. Additionally, the WCD ministry will form guidelines that will deal with sexual harassment complaints. A monthly and an annual report to be prepared by the Internal Complaints Committee of each ministry, on the status of complaints received, are few of the many features.

    The cadre controlling authority of a victim will monitor her progress for 5 years to check whether the accused colleague still harasses her, the official said. He added that deploying a similar exercise for the private sector is also on the cards.
