• ‘Da Da Ding’ and get sporty: Nike tells Indian women

    So Nike has finally said “Just do it” to Indian women in sports. The new powerful ad made for the first time for the Indian consumers calls for all the girls in the country to come out and play a sport. The ad which was released on Monday this week has gone viral and there is no stop to it. Along with superstar Deepika Padukone, who incidentally was also a national level badminton player, there are 10 more female athletes.

    What’s interesting to watch is that the entire feel of the ad is filled with a sort of energy that can only come from these female athletes. There is hockey player Rani Rampal, women from Indian cricket team like Harmanpreet Kaur who was also the top scorer at this year’s women’s T20, Smriti Mandana and Subhlakshmi Sharma. Then there is surfer Ishita Malaviya, squash player Joshna Chinappa, footballer Jyoti Ann Barret and youngest fully-trained Stott Pilates instructors of the world Namrata Purohit.

    And of course how can we forget Deepika Padukone, the player who turned into an actor. While posting this ad on her social media, she took to relating it with the time that she struggled with depression two years ago. She wrote on her Facebook wall:

    “Sport has taught me how to handle failure. It has also taught me how to handle success. It has kept me grounded. It has taught me humility.

    Two years ago I struggled with depression. I was sinking. I almost gave up. But it was the athlete in me that gave me the strength to fight and never ever give up!

    And so I want to say to every girl and every boy and every woman and every man…play a sport…because it changed my life…and it will change yours too!

    Sport has taught me how to survive! It has taught me how to fight! It has made me unstoppable!”

    The ad which is part of the ’Just Do It’ campaign has been created by Weiden + Kennedy for Nike. This is their first ever ad for the company.Though, first released on the digital medium, it is now running as television commercial for English channels. The song was produced by Genera8ion who are better known as the producer of singer M.I.A’s album Matangi.

    Da Da Ding is so catchy that you would want to jump, jiggle and play too watching these women. And oh yes, you would want to be an athlete too!
