China has the highest number of powerful women in Asia

Starting in Europe and America, the empowerment of women in various fields can be seen in Asia as well. With great women leaders coming up in India and China, one cannot ignore the rapid growth in these developing economies. This year, the Forbes Magazine celebrated its 10th anniversary of the ‘World’s 100 most powerful women listing. According to the list, 23 of the 100 women are Asian. And out of those 23; 9 are Chinese, 3 are Indian and 2 are Singaporean.

Park Geun-hye, the President of South Korea is the highest ranking Asian on the list. Overseeing a 1.6 trillion dollar economy, she is the first female to be elected as the President of the country. She was ranked #52nd by Forbes Magazine's List of The World's Most Powerful People this year.

 

The next woman to get a ranking on the list is a Chinese entertainer Yao Chen, who is just 34years old. Highly popular in China, she has over 66 million social media followers. She also uses the platform to highlight important social issues and has the highest number of social media follows amongst all the women on the Forbes list.

Voice of America also reports the rising number of entrepreneurs on the list. Amongst the nine self-made billionaires on the list, is Zhang Xin, ranking 62nd. She is the co-founder and CEO of SOHO China.

 

Moira Forbes, Forbes President and Publisher of Forbes Woman, told Voice of America: “I think great leadership comes from the ability to influence and that comes from the ability to connect and engage individuals regardless of culture, age, ethnicity and the like.”
