Chanda Kochhar, managing director and CEO of ICICI Bank, has recently been honoured with the Woodrow Wilson Award for Global Corporate Citizenship from the Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington DC, Businessinsider.in reports.

With this achievement, Kochhar became the first Indian woman to receive the award. Former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam and Infosys founder Narayana Murthy have earlier received this award.

A true example of a woman running a show, Kochhar received the award for efficiently demonstrating a commitment to the common good.

A woman who has built a career alongside family and improvises both the parts of her life with equal aplomb, has been conferred with numerous prestigious awards in her life. Her transformation from just a trainee to the CEO is a real inspiration for many women at work. Being the CEO and MD of ICICI, one of the biggest private sector banks in the country, Kochhar is nailing the retail banking sector in India. Her contributions to various forums in India and globally are laudable.

Kochhar, who began her career with ICICI Limited in 1984, was presented with the Padma Bhushan, one of India’s highest civilian honours, in 2011. She has been featured in the Forbes 2015 list of ‘The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’.
