Criticising the Trinamool Congress MPs who had supported personal laws for Muslims at an earlier event, Ganguly said the TMC is unaware of the atrocities Muslim women have to go through because of the biased rules in Muslim personal law.

“How can you have separate laws for separate communities? Those who are supporting Triple Talaq, do they have any idea about the kind of harassment the Muslim women suffer after being summarily divorced?” she asked at a rally, as reported by Indian Express.

The famous actress-turned-politician further added that even Muslim countries have banned the practice of Triple Talaq. State BJP president of Kolkata Dilip Ghosh, on the other hand, questioned TMC’s motive in supporting Triple Talaq, adding that their move is only to gather Muslim votes.

“The TMC is supporting the issue because they are not interested in uplifting women but want to pursue votebank politics. They are not interested in education, health of Muslim community but in the sermons of the fundamentalists,” Ghosh said.

With the All India Muslim Personal Law Board starting their three-day convention from today, the BJP is rallying for the UCC and opposing the Triple Talaq.
