About the Video

Soon after women around the world protested the disparity, sexism and inherent bias they face in their professional and public lives, twenty aspiring and successful Women entrepreneurs gathered to reflect and emerge from the challenges of being a “boss lady” in an otherwise male-dominated environment. At SheThePeople’s Rise and Shine Power Breakfast event on Tuesday, Neela Kaushik, Founder at GurgaonMoms spoke to Sakshi Talwar, Co Founder at Rugs and Beyond, about her entrepreneurial journey, the challenges she faced, and her advice to women entrepreneurs as to what they can do to make their ventures successful.

Boss Lady and the workplace: Discussion spotlight at SheThePeople Power Breakfast

From the onset Sakshi maintained that consistent hard work and putting your customers first are the two primary things which will set you apart from your competitors. Once she decided that she didn’t want a nine to five cubicle job, she undertook a digital marketing course to launch her own enterprise and be on top of her game.

“I was raising a lot of eyebrows and the hurdles were never over. Because I was entirely accountable, a lot of groundwork was required to prove my naysayers wrong,” says Sakshi.

Even in the world of social media, Sakshi feels that a good word of mouth goes a long way in establishing credibility

Taking the business online without compromising on the tangible factor of a brick and mortar store was pivotal for her success. A lot of innovation was required on that front and the company provides samples of the actual product and there is a quality control team ensuring the best quality for deliveries all around the world. Even in the world of social media, she feels that a good word of mouth goes a long way in establishing credibility.

Sakshi, who plans on hiring more women staff in 2017, states that no business can work in isolation and it is very important for women entrepreneurs to network

Sakshi, who plans on hiring more women staff in 2017, states that no business can work in isolation and it is very important for women entrepreneurs to network, find good mentors and uplift one another. She adds, “Women need to support each other and ultimately a woman has to be extremely passionate and be her own cheerleader. If you don’t support yourself nobody else well. Pick one thing you’re good at and do your best and then branch out.”
