Serena Williams in Round 2 in US Open

Serena Williams has won the Australian Open six times and seems to be on her way to win the title again. The World no.2 American player clinched a straight win over American Nicole Gibbs 6-1, 6-3 in the third round on Saturday, entering into the quarter finals. To ease into the next match, she played very carefully by not facing a break point until she was serving for the match.

Williams (35), who has 22 Grand Slams to her name, only once dropped serve in the entire game, which lasted for 63 minutes. That made it one minute and one game longer than her only other match against Gibbs.

Earlier, Williams had beaten Belinda Bencic 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of the Australian Open at Melbourne Park.

Williams will next face off No. 16 Barbora Strycova, who beat No. 21 Caroline Garcia 6-2, 7-5.

The 35-year-old star player said the victory against Gibbs "felt really good" despite their off-court friendship.

"She's such an amazing person, especially off the court," she said about her opponent.

Williams won her last Australian Open in 2015. She lost the Australian Open final last year to Angelique Kerber, but went on to win at Wimbledon and equal Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles.

Williams has been the world number one in women’s tennis on multiple occasions and the last time she was at the top spot for 186 weeks -- a record for the most consecutive weeks at number one in women’s tennis with Steffi Graf.

But during a post-match conference, a reporter said “That was a bit of a scrappy performance. A few more unforced errors, a few double faults” to her.

Take a look at how she shut him down openly:
