• Artezvous Promotes Upcoming Artists

Sisters Bindal and Payal Shah started Artezvous two-and-a-half years ago, and have recently launched Artezvous.in, a marketplace for up and coming artists.

Upcoming artists often find it difficult to establish a place for themselves in the competitive scene of artists who have already carved a niche for themselves. The Shah sisters launched Artezvous in order to showcase and promote new artists, who are not in the mainstream, Bindal Shah tells SheThePeople.tv.  Many of the artists they feature are self-taught. The two sisters are artists themselves. Bindal graduated in Commercial Art from Sophia College in 91, and Payal has an Associate Degree in Visual Arts from a college in New York.

Bindal tells SheThePeople.tv that the company’s USP is that they do not charge a commission for selling a piece of art. The company organises 6 theme-based exhibitions a year, which showcase around 80 artists in each show. ‘Women With Wings’, ‘A Brush With Botany’, ‘MetroScapes’ are some of the shows that they have held.

The company has grown mostly through word of mouth, and social media, says Bindal. The process of selecting artists for the exhibitions and for the website is a thorough one, she said. The company has well-known art dealers and contemporary artists on its selection panel. They start advertising for a particular show, two or three months before, so that artists are aware of the theme. Once the panel filters through all the artists that have applied, they ask for their work in progress in order to get an idea of what will be exhibited at the show. They also have a bank of artists whom they ask to exhibit at a particular show, depending on whether their work fits the theme.

Here’s some of the art that is featured on their website:

They also have an annual exhibition which features paintings made by children. This year, they will showcase art work from a child as young as 6 years!

In future, the sisters wish to grow their website, and pomote many new artists.
