Wrestler Geeta Phogat on Sunday tied the knot with fellow wrestler Pawan Kumar in Haryana’s Balali village in Bhiwani district. Aamir Khan, whose film Dangal is based on the Phogat family, had donned traditional attire at the wedding and was seen greeting guests with folded hands like her own father, veteran wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat.
Aamir is playing the protagonist’s role, that of the father of Geeta Phogat in the upcoming wrestling biopic, set to hit theatres on December 23. The film has been directed by Nitesh Tiwari.
The presence of Aamir, one of the biggest actors in Bollywood, has created huge excitement in the village.
Aamir himself took care of the wedding gifts for both the Phogats and the groom’s family. The actor also presented the wedding gift to the bride which usually goes from the Mama’s (uncle’s) side.
Other wrestlers who attended the wedding included Sushil Kumar, Sakshi Malik and the president of Wrestling Federation of India Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.
On being asked about currency ban, Aamir told reporters, “I will not comment on this matter. As far as cash for the wedding is concerned, I had no issues. All my cash is in the bank and payments were made in cheque,” as reported by NDTV.
