In a heinous incident, a group of armed criminals raped four women and murdered a man at the Khurja-Jhajhar road in Greater Noida region early on Thursday (May 25).
Seven family members, who were reportedly travelling from Jewar to Bulandshahr to visit an ailing relative in the hospital, were waylaid by the criminals.
One of the victims said that the family had left the village around 1 am in a Maruti Eco car. “When we reached near Sabauta village, we felt something stroking the wheels of the car. We stopped the vehicle and found that the two front wheels had been punctured,” he said. He notified his brother and asked him for help.
The criminals took the women at some distance to rape them. When one of the family members put up resistance, the criminals killed him on the spot by shooting him on the chest and leg. The criminals fled before the police authorities reached the place
As soon as the car occupants got down from the vehicle to fix the problem, a gang of 6-7 criminals surrounded them. The attackers, who were armed with guns, stole their cash and valuables.
The criminals then took the women at some distance to rape them. When one of the family members put up resistance, the criminals killed him on the spot by shooting him on the chest and leg. The criminals fled before the police authorities reached the place.
Love Kumar, senior superintendent of Gautam Budh Nagar, said that an FIR had been registered, and the post-mortem examination of the deceased was being carried out. The victims have been sent for medical examination and their reports are awaited.
A similar incident took place in July 2016 when a group of highway robbers raped a woman and her daughter in Bulandshahr. The horrifying incident invoked a lot of public anger with people taking to the streets to protest against the then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
Such incidents against women lay testimony to the fact that a lot needs to be still achieved in safeguarding half the country’s population.
