This year’s topper of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination is a lady. 22 year old Tina Debi cleared the exam at first attempt, which is noteworthy considering that some applicants have to appear multiple times to do the same. While the Delhi based Tina topped the exam, Jammu and Kashmir’s Athar Aamir came second and Delhi’s Jasmeet Singh Sandhu took third rank.
“It feels incredible. I still can’t believe that I have topped the exam. It was my first attempt. I am excited and waiting for a new learning experience,” Dabi, a Political Science graduate said to India Today
Dabi completed her schooling from the Convent of Jesus and Mary in Delhi and went on to study Political Science for her Bachelor’s degree from Lady Shri Ram College of Delhi University. Tina has chosen to prepare for the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) as her topmost choice and the state of Haryana to be her choice of cadres. Her deep interest in the Indian constitution reflects from her choice of study in her bachelor’s degree.
The results of UPSC constitute the scores earned by applicants in a written exam that was held in December 2015 and the scores from a personality interview held from March to May. Thousands of applicants sat for the exam out of which a total of 1078 students made it to the merit list. Out of these 1078, 499 are from the general category, 314 from the other backward classes, 176 from the scheduled castes and 89 from the scheduled tribes.
The Union Public Service Commission exam is considered one of the toughest to crack in our country. After clearing this, students go on to government jobs in the administrative, foreign and police services apart from the other central services.
